Novak Djokovic has been seen training in Marbella just days after pulling out of the Madrid Open.
The Serbian star was filmed hitting on the main Manolo Santana court at the Puente Romano Tennis Club this week, one of his regular training bases on the Costa del Sol.
Djokovic’s appearance comes shortly after his withdrawal from the Mutua Madrid Open, where he had been expected to make his return following a recent shoulder issue.
The 38-year-old has not played since his defeat to Britain’s Jack Draper at Indian Wells, and his absence from Madrid suggests he is taking a cautious approach as he manages his schedule.
Familiar surroundings
Marbella is a home-from-home for Djokovic. His brother Marko lives in the area, and the 24-time Grand Slam champion owns a property in Sierra Blanca.
He has frequently used the Puente Romano facilities over the years and is known to favour the venue for private training sessions.
Focus on recovery
While fans had hoped to see him compete in Madrid, Djokovic appears focused on regaining full fitness before committing to his next tournament.
Despite playing fewer events in recent seasons, he has repeatedly said his motivation remains strong – but with retirement edging closer, he is choosing his moments carefully.
For now, all eyes are on where – and when – he will return to competitive action.
He is expected to play at the Rome masters in early May.
