A major police operation has swept through one of Malaga’s most troubled neighbourhoods following weeks of gun violence between rival family clans.
Around 250 Policia Nacional officers descended on La Trinidad early Tuesday morning, carrying out 21 house searches in a large-scale raid that has so far led to at least 19 arrests.
Authorities also seized nine weapons – including what sources describe as a military-grade firearm – along with cash and drugs.
Massive dawn raid
The operation, backed by a police helicopter, focused on the streets of Jaboneros and Jara, close to where multiple shootings recently sparked fear among residents.
One of the most serious incidents took place on April 16, when shots were fired in broad daylight. Days earlier, police had already responded to gunfire in Plaza Bravo, recovering ballistic evidence.
Elite units deployed
The operation began at 6am and involved several specialised units.
Riot police and rapid response teams secured the area, while investigators from the judicial police carried out searches inside homes.
Elite tactical officers, technical specialists trained to find hidden compartments, and sniffer dogs were also deployed.
Forensic teams later moved in to collect and analyse the seized weapons, which will now be tested to determine whether they were used in the recent shootings.
Investigation under wraps
The case is currently under judicial secrecy, meaning further details have not been released.
Government representative Javier Salas described it as a ‘major operation’ and praised police for their response, adding that authorities will continue working to ensure Malaga remains a safe city.
The raid comes amid growing concern over organised crime in the area, after a string of violent incidents put La Trinidad firmly in the spotlight.
