Spain’s Food Safety and Nutrition Agency (AESAN) has issued an urgent warning over ‘Hello Kitty’ sweets that have reached the Spanish market, citing a potential choking hazard.
The alert concerns ‘Hello Kitty Apple and Konjac Jelly’, a product made in Japan under the Sanrio brand and distributed in Spain via the Netherlands.
The warning was triggered after a notification through the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), relayed by Dutch authorities.
According to AESAN, the sweets are sold in plastic bags containing individual sachets. The risk is linked to the presence of konjac, an ingredient that can pose a serious choking hazard, particularly for young children and elderly people.
Initial investigations indicate the affected batches have been distributed in several regions, including Andalucia, Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y Leon, Catalonia, Galicia, Madrid and the Valencian Community.

However, authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the product may have reached other parts of Spain.
AESAN has informed regional authorities through Spain’s rapid information exchange system (SCIRI) to ensure the product is withdrawn from sale as quickly as possible.
Health control officials are working to remove any remaining stock from distribution channels.
Consumers who have purchased the affected sweets are advised not to consume them and to follow official guidance.
