This is the moment a hotel worker in Torremolinos was removed by firefighters after suffering burns across his entire body.

The horrific incident occurred at the Hotel Riu Palace when a water pipe exploded on Friday morning.

The employee was found unconscious on the floor of a machine room at around 8.35am.

In a photo shared online by Malaga firefighters today, the victim can be seen being wrapped in a gold foil sheet.

The force said: ‘Our team from Torremolinos responded this Friday to a water pipe explosion in a boiler at the Riu Palace Hotel in the same municipality.

‘The explosion affected two workers, and we assisted the health services in securing and transferring one of them, who suffered burns, to an ambulance.’

His colleagues immediately called the 112 emergency hotline, who dispatched paramedics, firefighters and Policia Nacional officers to the scene.

The victim was treated at the scene before being rushed to Malaga’s Regional University Hospital.

The hotel is currently not open for guests.

Initial investigations suggest that a malfunction in the hotel’s hot water boiler system caused a steam pipe to rupture, leading to the burns.

The incident has been reported to the Labour Inspectorate, which will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
