The Andalucian province of Almeria is emerging as an unexpected testing ground for a potentially groundbreaking construction model using prefabricated concrete homes.
Modular Home has launched its first project in Roquetas de Mar, a resort hugely popular with British expats and tourists.
The project introduces an industrialised building system designed to combine speed, energy efficiency and strict cost control – an appealing mix for buyers weary of the risks associated with conventional builds.
While a traditional home can take 16 to 18 months to complete, modular concrete housing can be delivered in around six months, with the main structure assembled on site in as little as a week.
Crucially, this speed does not come at the expense of quality. Most of the construction takes place in a controlled factory environment, allowing each component to be closely monitored before installation.
This reduces delays, minimises errors and limits the budget overruns that often plague traditional projects.
According to Modular Home’s website, prices start from little over €57,000 for the most basic structure and finishes, before climbing up to over €140,000 for ‘turn key ready’ options.
The first prefabricated home built by Modular Home in Almeria is a two-storey terraced property, complete with a garage, contemporary finishes and installations comparable to those found in any standard new-build home.

Its structure is made from custom-designed concrete panels, manufactured off-site and assembled directly on the plot. This approach not only accelerates construction but also ensures a high level of structural precision and durability.
Another key factor driving interest is that these homes are fully mortgageable, provided they are built on urban land and comply with planning regulations.
Some banks have even begun offering 100% financing of construction costs when buyers already own the plot – a development that could significantly boost take-up of this model across the province.
Industrialised housing is gaining ground at a time when long build times, labour shortages and unpredictable costs are making it increasingly difficult for many people to access a home.
While prefabricated concrete homes are not a silver bullet for Spain’s housing shortage, their arrival in Almeria signals a shift towards faster, more controlled construction methods.
