Spain has made a major leap forward in the Global Quality of Life Index 2025.
In the list, compiled by Numbeo, the country has climbed to 18th place, up six spots from the 24th position it held a decade ago.
With a score of 187.2, Spain now ranks ahead of Canada (27th), France (29th) and Israel (30th), according to the analysis visualised by Visual Capitalist.
Strong performance across key indicators
The index assesses 30 countries using variables such as cost of living, healthcare quality, safety, pollution, and overall well-being.
Spain’s progress reflects what Numbeo describes as a steady improvement in both its economic conditions and public perception abroad.

Luxembourg and the Netherlands top the 2025 ranking, while Switzerland – which led in 2015 – has fallen to fifth.
Other fast-rising European countries include Estonia and Lithuania, showing a broader regional trend of improvement.
Why Spain stands out
Analysts attribute Spain’s climb to a combination of high-quality healthcare, effective social policies and a strong sense of public safety.
The Mediterranean lifestyle, rich cultural life and favourable climate further strengthen its reputation as one of the best countries for both living and visiting.
‘The figures confirm that Spain continues to be seen internationally as a country with a balanced mix of comfort, stability and well-being,’ the report concludes.
Numbeo’s latest findings highlight Spain’s resilience and consistent improvement amid global economic and social pressures.
With living standards continuing to rise, the report positions Spain firmly among the world’s leaders in quality of life, and on a positive trajectory for the decade ahead.
