Mijas donkey protest: Brits warned ‘be careful’ amid fears of clashes with taxi operators

Brits planning to protest against the donkey taxis in Mijas have been told to ‘be careful’ amid fears of clashes.

A demonstration is being organised for May 25 by animal activists and political party PACMA.

But as Brits and locals vowed to attend and support the movement, some issued warnings of potential tensions with the donkey owners.

One British expat warned: ‘I hear they are coming prepared, the donkey gang are bringing back up so be careful please.’

Meanwhile, locally-based activist Anne Freedom advised against provoking the taxi operators.

It came after a supporter suggested wearing t’shirts with anti-donkey taxi slogans around Mijas pueblo.

Anne wrote: ‘This would be very dangereous for you as if you remember, an English tourist was beaten. I went with him to the Guardia Civil as he needed a translator to denounce it.’

Ian Grace claimed he was set upon by a donkey taxi operator last August and punched several times in the face because he tried to document the ‘animal abuse’.

A British woman claimed she was also verbally accosted for taking photos of the donkeys last summer.

Despite fears of clashes, scores of Brits, tourists and locals have vowed to attend this month’s protest.

‘Yes I will be attending again this needs to stop,’ one Brit wrote, while another added: ‘I will be there, this abuse NEEDS to stop.’
