A nine-year-old boy has died after being mowed down by a car while crossing the street with his family in Mallorca.

According to reports, the child was struck on a pedestrian crossing on Paseo del Ferrocarril at around 8pm on Thursday.

His three-year-old sister suffered minor injuries after also being struck by the vehicle.

Local police are investigating while a psychologist is said to be treating the his relatives.

Sources said the boy was with his Moroccan mother and three siblings when the tragedy unfolded.

Four ambulances and patrol cars from the Manacor Local Police were quickly dispatched to the scene, but they could do nothing to save the boy’s life.

Paramedics said he was suffering from cardiac arrest and that they attempted to resuscitate him for 40 minutes. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues.
