This is the moment a group legionnaires were filmed cheering far-right activist Vito Quiles as he shouted ‘Go after the reds!’
The footage was recorded inside a bus during the National Day parade on Monday, October 12, reports Cadena SER.
Quiles shared the video on his own social media accounts, wishing followers a happy National Day and declaring that Spain would have ‘the political leaders it deserves’ after the November 29 election.
Soldiers could be heard chanting his name and cheering his remarks.
The army’s investigation is at an early stage, SER reported.
The broadcaster said publicly expressing views that breach military personnel’s duty of political or trade union neutrality can constitute a serious disciplinary offence.
Potential penalties include financial sanctions equivalent to eight to 15 days’ pay, military detention lasting 15 to 30 days, or removal from an assigned post.
No disciplinary findings or sanctions have yet been reported.
