Santiago Abascal will be kicking off his snap election campaign in Estepona on Sunday, it has been announced.
The Vox leader will address supporters in the Costa del Sol gem as polls suggest his party could double its representation in Congress.
The event will begin at 6pm at the Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park hotel, the hard-right party announced on X.
It will take place on the eve of Spain’s National Day on October 12, although Vox has not yet confirmed whether Abascal will attend the traditional military parade in Madrid.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia are due to preside over the annual ceremony.
Abascal declined to attend the official event last year, saying he did not want to share another institutional engagement with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Vox enters the election campaign in a strong position, with several polls suggesting it could double its current representation and secure approximately 70 seats in the Congress of Deputies.
Such a result could make the party essential to forming a PP-led government if neither of Spain’s main political blocs wins an outright majority.
However, Abascal urged supporters not to assume that the election was already won.
He warned on Monday against repeating what he described as the centre-right’s mistake in 2023, when opinion polls predicted that the PP and Vox would secure enough seats to remove Sanchez from power.
The PP won that election but fell short of a governing majority, allowing Sanchez to remain prime minister after negotiating support from left-wing and regional parties.
