Two hotels in Spain have been named among the ultimate beach resorts for travellers searching for winter sunshine.
The resorts in Tenerife and Lanzarote were selected alongside tropical escapes in the Maldives, Mauritius and the Caribbean.
British Airways’ High Life magazine included The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama and H10 Rubicon Horizons Collection in Lanzarote in its newly published selection.
Both are located in the Canary Islands, where mild winter temperatures and relatively short flights from mainland Europe offer an alternative to long-haul destinations.
The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama
The Ritz-Carlton sits among the volcanic cliffs of Tenerife’s southwest coast, with views across the Atlantic towards La Gomera.
Its distinctive terracotta buildings descend towards a secluded golden-sand beach and are surrounded by palm trees and subtropical gardens.
The resort has seven temperature-controlled swimming pools, an 18-hole championship golf course and an ocean-facing spa.
Food is another major attraction, with Michelin-starred dining available alongside more relaxed seafood restaurants.

Rooms and suites feature large private terraces, while the surrounding landscape includes banana plantations and Tenerife’s dramatic volcanic peaks.
High Life recommends walking through the hotel gardens to reach the beach rather than taking the glass-fronted funicular.
The route passes banana trees, bougainvillea and rocky water features before arriving at the sand.
H10 Rubicon Horizons Collection, Lanzarote
The second Spanish entry is situated on the seafront in Playa Blanca, on Lanzarote’s southern coast.
Designed to resemble a traditional Canarian village, the whitewashed resort opens directly onto a promenade overlooking volcanic rocks, golden beaches and the Atlantic.
Its facilities include five adult swimming pools, extensive palm gardens, a saltwater thalassotherapy spa and ten restaurants and bars.
Rooms have private balconies, with some providing views across the water towards neighbouring Fuerteventura.

Guests can also choose from tennis, snorkelling, scuba diving, sports pitches, fitness classes and yoga.
The magazine recommends following the seafront promenade west towards Pechiguera Lighthouse for a quieter sunset walk.
According to High Life, the resort combines dependable winter warmth and volcanic scenery without requiring European travellers to endure a long-haul journey.
