Two people have been injured after a gas cylinder exploded inside a chicken shop in Cartama.
The blast sparked a fire and caused the premises in Estacion de Cartama to collapse on Sunday morning.
Andalucia’s 112 emergency service received several calls at around 9.50am reporting an explosion inside the business on Avenida de Andalucia.
Callers said the shop was on fire and that people had been injured.
Firefighters, Guardia Civil officers, Local Police and 061 medical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
A medical helicopter transported both casualties to hospital. Their conditions have not yet been disclosed.
Firefighters said the blast caused the chicken shop to collapse and spread fire damage to neighbouring premises.
Smoke also affected homes situated on the floors above the businesses.
Emergency crews extinguished the blaze and secured the surrounding area before removing rubble and broken glass from the road.
Images from the scene showed extensive damage to the premises and debris scattered across the street.
Spain’s Labour Inspectorate, the Occupational Risk Prevention Centre and the company responsible for supplying the gas have all been informed.
An investigation is expected to determine what caused the cylinder to explode.
