Almeria is attracting a huge amount of interest from international residents looking for a rental home, it has emerged.

According to Idealista data for the first quarter of 2026, foreigners accounted for up to four in every 10 people making such enquiries.

The international demand is particularly strong in Mojacar and Vera, where 38% and 37% of rental searches come from outside Spain respectively.

Across Almeria province as a whole, foreigners accounted for 17% of rental demand.

Britons dominated international searches in Mojacar, Germans led across the province and Americans took the top spot in Almeria city.

Brits dominate Mojacar

Among those searching from abroad in Mojacar, the UK is the leading country of origin, followed by France and Germany.

Mojacar’s figures put it alongside other Spanish coastal destinations with particularly high levels of international rental interest, including Almuñecar, Salobreña, Ayamonte, Oliva, Peñiscola and Sitges.

Dutch flock to Vera

The picture is slightly different in nearby Vera, where international demand stands at 37%.

Here, the Netherlands generates the greatest interest from abroad, followed by Germany and France.

The figures underline the increasingly international nature of the rental market along Almeria’s Mediterranean coastline.

However, the data measures rental search demand, rather than completed rental contracts or the proportion of homes actually occupied by foreigners.

Across the entire province, 17% of rental demand comes from abroad.

That puts Almeria level with Las Palmas and behind only a handful of Spain’s major international property markets.

Alicante and the Balearic Islands lead with 26%, while Malaga stands at 24%.

By comparison, international searches represent just 9% of rental demand in Madrid.

Germany is the biggest source of foreign rental demand in Almeria province, followed by the UK and France.

Americans lead searches in Almeria city

In Almeria city, foreign searches represent 13% of rental demand in the provincial capital, meaning more than one in 10 people looking for somewhere to rent are searching from outside Spain.

The US is the biggest source of international interest in the city, followed by France and Portugal.

Almeria city’s 13% international share is level with Granada and above Sevilla, where foreigners account for 8% of rental demand.

Among Spanish provincial capitals, Alicante leads with 25%, followed by Valencia on 24%, while Palma and Malaga both stand at 20%.
