A Policia Nacional officer has been hospitalised after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while on duty in Marbella.

The incident happened while the officer was inside the guard post at Marbella’s Policia Nacional station, according to police sources.

The officer’s service weapon was accidentally discharged, with the bullet striking him in one of his lower limbs.

He was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound and remains under medical care, although his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police have stressed that the shooting was accidental, although the precise circumstances surrounding the discharge have not yet been made public.

No other people are reported to have been injured.
