One of Andalucia’s most unusual fundraising events is returning this autumn, with a donkey once again deciding who walks away with a cash prize.
The second edition of the ‘Caca del Burro’ (Donkey Poo) event will take place in Aracena, Huelva, on September 26, organised by the Sacramental Brotherhood of La Soledad.
The event sees the fairground divided into 1,000 numbered squares, with participants able to buy a plot for €5 each.
Once every square has been sold, a donkey is released into the enclosure. The winner is simply the owner of the square where the animal decides to relieve itself.
This year, organisers are offering €1,500 if the winning ticket holder is present when the donkey makes its choice, or €1,000 if they are absent.
The brotherhood says more family-friendly activities will be announced ahead of the event to accompany the quirky competition.

Anyone wishing to buy a square can contact members of the brotherhood or get in touch through its social media channels.
Last year’s inaugural event proved a hit, with one lucky participant taking home €1,000 after the donkey chose her square.
