Fresh heat warnings have been issued across parts of Andalucia as temperatures are forecast to climb to 38C on Tuesday.
State weather agency Aemet has placed several areas under yellow alerts for high temperatures between 1pm and 8.59pm on July 14, including the Costa del Sol, parts of Granada province and inland Almeria.
The warnings come just days after the devastating Los Gallardos wildfire broke out, claiming 12 lives and burning over 6,600 hectares.
On the Costa del Sol and in the Guadalhorce Valley, temperatures are expected to reach 37C. The warning covers Marbella, Estepona, Malaga city and surrounding inland areas.
Even higher temperatures are forecast in eastern Andalucia.
Aemet expects highs of 38C in the Guadix and Baza area, the Genil basin in Granada province, and the Almanzora Valley and Los Velez in Almeria province.
Although temperatures are not expected to reach the extreme levels recorded during last week’s heatwave, emergency services have urged people to remain vigilant due to the continued wildfire risk.
People are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay well hydrated and take extra care in rural areas where vegetation remains extremely dry after weeks of high temperatures.
The latest alerts come as firefighters across Andalucia continue monitoring for new outbreaks following one of the deadliest wildfire disasters in the region’s recent history.
