A decomposing body showing signs of violence has been discovered inside a luxury villa in Torrevieja.
The grim discovery was made by the Guardia Civil on Friday afternoon, according to regional newspaper Informacion.
The victim was found lying bloodied in the property’s patio after the homeowner raised the alarm at around 2pm.
The body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when it was found.
Officers from the Guardia Civil in Torrevieja, detectives from the Judicial Police and forensic specialists from the Criminalistics Laboratory all attended the scene to carry out an extensive investigation.
The body was later transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante after a judge authorised its removal.
Sources close to the investigation told local media that at least one person has already been detained in connection with the case, although the Guardia Civil has yet to officially confirm any arrests.
The villa is located in La Veleta, one of Torrevieja’s most exclusive seafront neighbourhoods near the Orihuela municipal boundary, an area known for its detached luxury homes.

Neighbours said the property appeared to be occupied by a Spanish man, while his brother, who is said to own the home, visited regularly.
By Friday evening, the house had been sealed off by investigators, with a vehicle still parked inside the property as forensic work continued.
The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation, and the identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
