Orange weather alerts have been issued across parts of Andalucia on Wednesday as the latest heatwave pushes temperatures above 40C in several provinces.
State weather agency Aemet has placed the Sevilla countryside (Campiña Sevillana), Cordoba countryside (Campiña Cordobesa) and the Andevalo and Condado areas of Huelva under an orange warning for extreme heat between 1pm and 8.59pm.
Forecasters expect temperatures to reach 41C in both Sevilla and Cordoba, while inland parts of Huelva could see highs of 40C.
Yellow heat alerts have also been activated across several other parts of the region.
The Guadalquivir Valley in Jaen, Cazorla and Segura, and the Cadiz countryside are forecast to reach 39C, while the Huelva coast could climb to 36C.
The warnings come as much of southern Spain continues to endure exceptionally high temperatures, with inland areas seeing little overnight relief.
Health authorities advise people to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and check regularly on elderly relatives, young children and anyone with underlying health conditions.
Motorists are also urged to carry water when travelling, while pet owners are reminded never to leave animals inside parked vehicles, even for a few minutes.
The orange alerts will remain in force from 1pm until 8.59pm on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to peak during the afternoon.
