A power supply failure has brought rail services between Sevilla and Cordoba to a standstill.
The incident on Tuesday evening is causing major disruption to AVE services between Madrid and Andalucia as well as regional and commuter trains.
According to rail infrastructure operator Adif, the fault was detected shortly before 8.30pm on sections of track between Sevilla-Santa Justa and Guadajoz on the high-speed network, and between Santa Justa and Brenes on the conventional line.
The outage forced the suspension of services on one of Spain’s busiest rail corridors, leaving passengers facing delays and cancellations in both directions.
Renfe said it had activated free ticket changes and cancellations for passengers travelling on the Madrid-Sevilla high-speed route while engineers worked to restore power.
Adif said technical teams were on site and attempting to resolve the problem as quickly as possible, although no estimate had been given for when normal services would resume.
