A man has died after getting into difficulty in the water off the Costa de la Luz on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred in Torreguadiaro, a coastal village in the municipality of San Roque, at around 2pm.
According to emergency services, several people on the beach rushed to help the victim after noticing he was struggling in the sea.
Bystanders began CPR while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.
The 112 emergency coordination centre alerted the Guardia Civil, Local Police and medical teams, who were dispatched to the scene.
Despite the efforts of those who first came to the man’s aid, and the subsequent attempts by emergency personnel to revive him, his life could not be saved.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, nationality or age.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident also remain unclear and an investigation is expected to establish what happened.
