Police have launched an investigation after a man with a gunshot wound was dropped off at a hospital in Alicante province.
The victim, described as being of Arab origin, was left at the emergency entrance of Elda General University Hospital with a bullet wound to his leg.
According to Todo Alicante, the individuals who brought him to the hospital – also believed to be of Arab origin – left immediately and have not yet been identified.
Medical staff found the man had suffered a gunshot wound to the lower limb, with both an entry and exit wound.
Despite the dramatic nature of the injury, doctors confirmed the bullet did not hit any major arteries or vital areas.
His condition is not considered serious, and he later requested voluntary discharge after receiving initial treatment.
As per protocol, hospital staff alerted police, and the Judicial Police unit in Elda has taken over the investigation.
Officers are now working to determine where the shooting took place, identify those responsible, and establish the motive behind the incident.
The shooting fits the modus operandi of organised crime gangs, who are increasingly shooting people in the limbs as a warning.
In December last year, a man was shot in the leg in the middle of the street in Nueva Andalucia, Marbella.
He later told police that he could not tell them anything because ‘they will kill me if I speak.’
