Overnight road closures on the busy MA-21 have begun as part of resurfacing works near Malaga Airport.
According to Malaga City Hall, the closures will begin from the night of Thursday, May 7 and will affect traffic travelling towards Malaga city between Torremolinos and the airport area.
The works will take place overnight between 11pm and 6am, when parts of the road will be completely shut to traffic.
Officials confirmed the closures will not apply on Friday or Saturday nights.
The main disruption will affect the MA-21 in the direction of Avenida de Velazquez near the Churriana junction, where traffic will be diverted via Avenida Montserrat Caballe during the works.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area altogether where possible and instead use alternative routes such as the MA-20 or the A-7, particularly for journeys into Málaga from Torremolinos and Churriana.
Additional overnight closures are also planned on Avenida Manuel Fraga Iribarne in Torremolinos in the direction of Málaga.
In this case, drivers will be redirected via the N-340a connection towards the MA-20.
The resurfacing operation forms part of Malaga’s wider high-density road asphalt improvement programme and is being carried out by a joint venture between Suministros Asfalticos SL and Firmes y Asfaltados del Sur SL.
City Hall expects the works on this section of road to continue until around the week beginning May 17, although officials warned the schedule could change depending on weather conditions.
Authorities noted that resurfacing work cannot be carried out during rain or poor weather, meaning further delays remain possible if conditions deteriorate.
