Marbella is pressing ahead with major redevelopment plans on the Golden Mile.
The town hall has now approved key steps towards a new luxury hotel complex and a commercial centre in one of the most sought-after areas of the Costa del Sol.
The projects will see a 30,000sqm hotel development in the Pinomar area alongside an 8,000sqm shopping complex opposite the iconic Marbella Club Hotel.
Town planning councillor Jose Eduardo Diaz described the moves as ‘significant progress’ in two separate but strategically important developments.
New beachfront resort backed by Ikos
The larger of the two projects is a major hotel complex promoted by Ikos Resorts, set to be built on the site of the former Marbella Playa hotel, in a prime beachfront location next to the A-7.
The council has now given initial approval to the reparcelling of the land, in a key administrative step that allows the project to move forward.
The development will also include around 200 residential properties, alongside new infrastructure such as an extension of the coastal path, a service road running parallel to the A-7 and wider improvements to the surrounding area.
‘It’s an area that is going to be completely regenerated,’ Diaz said.
The council says the works could begin before the end of the year.
New commercial hub opposite Marbella Club
At the same time, Marbella has launched the urban planning process for a new commercial centre on land located to the north of the Marbella Club Hotel.
The development will cover around 8,000sqm and is expected to bring new retail and leisure space to the Golden Mile.
The project also includes infrastructure upgrades, such as the creation of a green corridor running alongside the Las Piedras stream and a new service road to improve access and connectivity in the area.
Together, the two projects signal a broader push to modernise and upgrade key area of Marbella’s most prestigious strip, balancing high-end tourism with new commercial and residential space.
