British residents have been left fuming after a stretch of the Almeria coast was revealed to be getting its first-ever fast food restaurant this week.

According to local newspaper Diario de Almeria, the Levante coast will soon be home to a Burger King.

The US chain’s location is being built a short drive from the beach between Vera, Garrucha, Villaricos and Mojacar.

Its construction is expected to be complete in record time, with a planned opening date of December 20.

While the site will have a drive-thru and is expected to bring some jobs to the area, many residents are less than pleased.

When news of the Burger King was posted in an expat forum on Facebook, scores of Brits and other locals vented their frustration.

Mike Brialey said: ‘Sad news… the employment opportunities are minimal and it doesn’t take many people to staff these fast food places.

‘All we can do is vote with out feet… I’ll be staying away.’

Steve Homer added: ‘It’s ruined French food culture, don’t let it ruin Spanish!’

Mark Ross said: ‘Ironic really, as one of the most attractive things about Spain is the healthy lifestyle.’

Another Brit said it may be good for ‘job opportunities’ but added: ‘Terrible that there will be a Burger King there though.’

Others simply shouted ‘NO!’ and blasted ‘yet more processed c***!’.

‘Don’t do it Spain,’ warned David Perry, ‘I’m currently in the UK, last night queue of cars into McDonald’s drive through was huge.

‘These people were then enjoying their burgers in their steamed up cars in a rainy Aldi car park, they don’t even eat in the restaurant.

‘Your independent restaurant culture is so precious, please don’t lose it to this!’
