Sevilla has been ranked the best city in Spain to raise children, according to a new study by online psychological support service Unobravo.

The report assessed 30 urban centres on safety, childcare costs, healthcare and family life balance.

The Andalucian capital came out on top thanks to affordable daycare (around €333/month), low crime levels (35/100), strong access to public schools, and nearly 200 family-friendly activities on offer.

Madrid, despite being one of the country’s most expensive cities for families – with average childcare costs of €577 and monthly living expenses for four reaching €2,318 (excluding rent) – placed second due to flexible work options, strong healthcare, and abundant cultural activities.

Cordoba took third, standing out for some of the lowest childcare costs in the study (€283), solid healthcare (82/100) and low crime (22/100).

Other high scorers included Oviedo in Asturias (with an exceptionally low crime rate of 15/100), Murcia (high levels of flexible work), Santander (healthcare quality 83/100), A Coruña (childcare at just €250/month), and Granada (95 family activities listed). Gijón and Cartagena also made the top 10.

At the other end of the scale, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Badalona in Barcelona province, along with Almería, were named the least favourable for families – citing higher crime, poorer healthcare access, and limited public childcare.

‘Parents in these conditions can feel constantly on alert,’ warned Unobravo’s clinical director Francisco Rivera Rufete.

‘Without security, support, or space to disconnect, exhaustion builds up and risks of anxiety or depression rise.’
