A man has died while swimming in the sea off Fuengirola.
The unnamed man came into trouble at around 9.10pm on Wednesday.
Several calls were made to the 112 emergency hotline, reporting a person ‘drowning in the sea.’
The man was around 60 metres from the shore and was struggling to get out of the water, the Junta de Andalucia reported.
Authorities have not released any further details about the drowning victim.
The Maritime Rescue Service, Policia Nacional, Guardia Civil, and the Health Emergency Centre (CES) 061 were immediately sent to the scene.
Two people were able to pull the victim from the water and bring him to shore.
But despite the best efforts of paramedics to revive him, they could only confirm his death at the scene.
