A pregnant dog found near the crash site of the Adamuz rail disaster has since given birth to 11 healthy puppies.
The dog, later named Niebla, was discovered three days after the derailment. She was heavily pregnant, disoriented and had no microchip.
When no owner came forward, she was taken in by the A.RE.A Adamuz association and given shelter.
The association issued an urgent appeal for a foster home that could support Niebla through the final stages of pregnancy and the demanding weeks that follow.
During that time, her behaviour changed noticeably. Volunteers said she became more trusting and sociable, adapting quickly to human contact and showing a playful, gentle nature.
Two volunteers, Monica and Rocío, stepped in to provide temporary foster care.

‘They will do everything they can to make her life happier for as long as necessary,’ the association said in a social media post, while also asking for help to cover the costs involved in caring for a mother dog and her large litter.
As anticipated, Niebla went into labour shortly after the association announced that the birth was imminent.
While around ten puppies were expected, she ultimately delivered 11, all of them in good health.
