World Cup 2030 final will be held in Spain, confirms football chief

His comments came despite Morocoo previously making clear its desire to host the final.

Spain will host the final of the 2030 World Cup, according to Rafael Louzan, although the venue has yet to be confirmed.

Speaking at the annual gala of the Asociación de la Prensa Deportiva de Madrid, where he received an award, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation left little room for doubt.

‘Spain has proven its organisational capacity over many years,’ Louzan said.

‘Spain will lead the World Cup, and the final will be played here.’

His comments came despite Morocoo previously making clear its desire to host the final.

However, Louzan pointed to the chaos at the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, Morocco, held earlier this month.

The final was widely touted as a test for Morocco, but ended in embarassment when Senegal coach Pape Thiaw called his team off the field after hosts Morocco were given a penalty following a VAR check.

There was also unrest in the stands as Senegal’s supporters tried to force their way onto the pitch, causing a 17-minute delay to proceedings.

‘Morocco is really undergoing a transformation in every sense, with magnificent stadiums,’ Louzan said.

‘We must recognise what has been done well. But in the Africa Cup of Nations, we have seen scenes that damage the image of world football.’

Spain, Morocco and Portugal are co-hosting the tournament, with the final expected to be held at one of Spain’s flagship stadiums – though Louzan did not specify whether it would be Santiago Bernabeu, Camp Nou or another venue.
