Spain’s most iconic everyday objects, according to viral ‘meme’ artist – but how many do YOU recognise?

A MEME artist has gone viral after capturing the mundane, everyday items that seem to have become synonymous with Spanish culture.

The artistic Instagram page @Forocoches has used AI to create collectable figurines of everything from telephone boxes to serviette holders.

Each imaginary item is presented in a little box and given a title and description.

Among the most recognisable for Brits and other tourists will be the ‘Servilletero’, labelled as ‘Iconic Spanish Objects #001’.

It is of course the red serviette dispenser that is used by probably 99% of restaurants around the country.

The tiny serviettes themselves are known for not being the best at mopping up grease or liquid, while extracting them can also prove tricky.

Its description reads: ‘The true national totem… it doesn’t even dry a tear… no one has been able to withdraw one serviette without pulling out eight more… if it doesn’t read ”Gracias por su visita”, it doesn’t count.’

Another item is the ‘Mesa Camilla’, which the meme account jokes ‘knows your secrets’.

The item is essentially a small table with a blanket or sheet draped over it, topped with a glass counter.

They are seen in living rooms in traditional houses across the country, particularly in the homes of young people’s parents or grandparents.

Other items include huge wooden TV cabinets that ‘cannot fit modern TVs’. These are seen in homes all over Spain to this day.

The green and blue Telefonica phone box is another ‘iconic’ gem, despite their ‘last call’ being in 2007.
