All eyes will be on Marbella this weekend as the city hosts the Ironman 70.3 World Championship 2025, a world-class sporting event set to attract 7,000 athletes over Saturday and Sunday.

To ensure the event runs smoothly and safely, Marbella Council has deployed an extensive operation involving over 300 officers and volunteers to manage traffic, crowd control, and emergency response across both race days.

Miguel Angel Benitez, spokesperson for the Local Police, described the championship as ‘an event of exceptional scale that involves several neighbouring towns and requires significant human and technical resources.’

In Marbella alone, 50 to 60 Local Police officers will be deployed each day, alongside 175 Civil Protection volunteers, bringing the total personnel involved to over 350.

The women’s competition will be held on Saturday, while the men’s will be on Sunday.

Road Closures and Traffic Diversions

The event will bring significant traffic restrictions, especially in areas such as the Golden Mile and sections of the A-7 motorway, including the Trapiche access point, which will be closed from 6:30 or 7:00am until around 6:00pm.

A series of maps shared by the local police show some of the areas most used by residents that will be affected (see below).

In the images, the white paths are open to traffic, the green paths are for the bicycle part of the competition and the red and yellow is for running.
