Parts of Sevilla and Huelva sweated through a stifling ‘tropical night’ on Tuesday, with temperatures refusing to drop below 30C.

According to Juan de Dios del Pino, Andalucia’s delegate for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), overnight lows in some towns were hotter than a typical summer afternoon in northern Europe.

Moron de la Frontera (Sevilla) led the pack at 32.2C, followed by Villarrasa (Huelva) on 31.4C, Carrion de los Cespedes (Sevilla) and El Cerro de Andevalo (Huelva) both at 30.7C, and Valverde del Camino (Huelva) at 30.4C.

The heat map closely matched the zones under red alerts on Tuesday, August 12, when Aemet warned of dangerous highs.

Just behind the ’30 club’ overnight were Tablada (Sevilla) with lows of 29.2C, Alosno (Huelva) with 29.3C, and Cadiz city with 28.8C at 6am.

For Wednesday, orange warnings remained in force across almost all of Sevilla and Huelva, the Córdoba countryside, the Guadalquivir Valley, northern Jaen, and inland Cadiz.

Forecasts suggest highs topping 40C – with some spots possibly peaking above 42C.
