Traffic rose 5.1% on last year, with international routes jumping 10.6% and now making up over half of all commercial flights, official figures show.

‘This is proof Sevilla is consolidating itself as a reference point inside and outside our borders,’ said Sevilla minister Francisco Toscano.

Toscano credited the airport’s success to the roughly €80 million in upgrades which helped boost capacity, plus the addition of new routes.

The overhaul is the airport’s biggest in three decades, with a further €52 million set to be invested through 2026 to expand freight operations.

So far this year, the airport has averaged over 26,000 daily passengers, logging 42,143 flights (+4%), of which 37,493 were commercial. Cargo handling hit 6,600 tonnes, up 8.4%.

International boom

Of the 5.55 million commercial passengers, 2.59 million flew to or from Spanish cities while 2.96 million travelled abroad.

Foreign traffic now accounts for 53.3% of the total. New routes – including a direct service to Turkey – have helped drive growth.

July surge

In July alone, the airport handled 761,070 passengers and 5,841 flights.

The markets with the highest demand in absolute terms were Italy (77,308 passengers), the United Kingdom (66,307), France (53,401), Germany (34,814), Portugal (32,343), the Netherlands (13,218), Ireland (12,877), Morocco (12,056) and Turkey (11,872), a route that did not operate last year.

Across Spain, Aena’s 46 airports and two heliports moved 38.47 million passengers in July (+2.7%), with cargo up 10.1% year-on-year.
