Heat alerts across Spain: Malaga, Costa Blanca and Mallorca to suffer severe temperatures

State weather agency Aemet has issued a series of orange and yellow warnings, with even provinces in the north set to record highs of 39C.

The majority of Spain has been placed on alert for high temperatures on Thursday, when the mercury is expected to surpass 40C in multiple cities.

State weather agency Aemet has issued a series of orange and yellow warnings, with even provinces in the north set to record highs of 39C.

The hottest zones on Thursday will be the Andalucian provinces of Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba and Jaen.

The vast majority of these provinces are under an orange warning for highs of 41C.

Other orange warnings will cover Zaragoza, Cuenca, parts of Madrid and inland areas of Valencia and Alicante – all facing highs of 40C.

Meanwhile, the Guadalhorce valley and other parts of inland Malaga, including Antequera, are on a yellow alert for heat on Thursday.

So too, are the majority of the Costa Blanca, including Benidorm, the coast of Valencia and the interior of Mallorca.

All areas under a yellow warning for heat will face highs of 39C.
