Tourists visiting Spain have been warned to do their research after several fake beach destinations were widely shared online.

Mallorca local Gina Maria issued the alert on her TikTok page last week, where she regularly posts travel tips for foreign visitors.

She claimed that some locals have been making ‘fake beaches’ go viral online with the intention of sending holidaymakers away from actual hotspots that do exist.

But in a sinister twist, the fake destinations are named after ‘dangerous’ areas or towns where tourists should not be visiting.

The cruel trend is the latest facet of the growing anti-tourism movement on the island.

‘These aren’t beaches. They’re dangerous areas you should avoid,’ Gina says in the clip.

She advises viewers to check for real reviews or listings before heading out.

‘If you see lots of information online, it’s real. If not – stay away.’
