A doctor has been arrested after a 56-year-old nurse was found dead inside a hotel room in Marbella.
The Policia Nacional is investigating whether the pair consumed powerful hospital medications before the woman lost consciousness, according to police sources cited by Malaga Hoy.
The doctor, who works in Marbella and was staying at the hotel with the victim, reportedly contacted emergency services when the woman did not wake up.
Paramedics were unable to save her and declared her dead at the scene.
Police sources said the initial examination found no visible signs of violence. The cause of death has not yet been established, and toxicology results remain pending.
Investigators are examining several hospital-only medications allegedly found or linked to the incident, including propofol and morphine chloride.
Propofol is a powerful intravenous anaesthetic that suppresses the central nervous system and must normally be administered under carefully controlled medical conditions.
The detained doctor reportedly told investigators that the pair had been using these types of drugs for some time.

The substances are not believed to have been used as sexual stimulants but for their sedative and depressant effects.
Both the doctor and the nurse reportedly worked at the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella.
Officers are now investigating whether the medicines may have been removed unlawfully from the hospital by either of them.
The woman’s body was transferred to Malaga’s Institute of Legal Medicine, where a post-mortem examination was carried out on Friday.
The investigation continues.
