A wildfire that broke out near homes in Cartama has been stabilised.

The fire was declared in the Malaga inland town on Saturday afternoon, specifically in the Dehesa Alta area.

Andalucia’s forest firefighting service INFOCA confirmed that a significant operation had been deployed to the scene.

A total of 23 forest firefighters were tackling the fire on the ground, supported by two BRICA specialist wildfire teams, two operations technicians and an environmental officer.

An autobomba, or fire engine designed for tackling forest fires, had also been sent to the area.

From the air, two aircraft, one light and one heavy, were deployed to attack the flames.

In an update at around 7.10pm, INFOCA said the flames had been ‘stabilised’ and that crews were ‘working towards their extinction’.

The fire comes after several wildfires in Malaga province this week.

A blaze in Nerja earlier this week required as many as eight aircraft before being stabilised, while another fire broke out in Alora on Friday, affecting the Las Aprietas area.
