British tourists and other visitors in Spain can now report a range of non-violent crimes online through a new multilingual service launched by the Guardia Civil.

The initiative, unveiled as part of the force’s Safe Tourism Plan 2026, allows people to file certain police reports electronically without having to attend a police station in person.

The service is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Spanish, making it significantly easier for foreign visitors who fall victim to crime while travelling in Spain.

Which crimes can be reported online?

The online reporting system currently covers seven types of incidents.

These include criminal damage, theft, the loss of identity documents, the recovery of documents that have already been reported missing, vehicle theft, theft from inside a vehicle, and online fraud or unauthorised bank card charges.

The system is designed for offences where there has been no violence, intimidation or immediate danger.

For more serious crimes, including robberies involving violence, assaults or emergencies, victims should continue to contact the emergency services or attend a police station in person.

Designed to help tourists

The Guardia Civil says the new service is intended to make reporting crime faster and easier for the millions of international visitors who travel to Spain each year.

Rather than spending time locating a police station, tourists can begin the reporting process online through the Guardia Civil’s electronic headquarters.

The force hopes the new system will reduce waiting times while making it easier for victims to obtain the documentation they may need for insurance claims or travel purposes.

The service forms part of Spain’s wider efforts to improve assistance for international visitors during the busy summer holiday season.
