A driver has been arrested over a fatal collision that killed a 31-year-old motorcyclist in Marbella.

The horror crash happened on Monday morning in the Lomas de Rio Verde urbanisation, according to Andalucia’s 112 emergency service.

Paramedics were alerted at 6.45am after witnesses reported a collision between a motorcycle and a car.

Callers said the rider had been thrown from his bike and was lying on the ground with serious injuries.

Paramedics and Marbella Local Police were immediately dispatched but despite their efforts the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not taken to hospital.

According to police sources cited by Europa Press, the driver of the car was arrested after testing positive for drugs.

Photos shared online showed large white tents erected over the area where the body was discovered.

A damaged black motorbike can be seen a few yards in front. In another photo, a black coroner’s vehicle can be seen arriving.

The tragedy came as the Costa del Sol was celebrating Spain’s World Cup victory over Argentina.

There is no suggestion at the time of reporting that the celebrations were linked to the accident.
