Almost one in five people convicted of a crime in Andalucia last year were foreign nationals, while four out of every five offenders were men, according to newly released official figures.
Data published by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE) shows that 57,126 people were convicted across the region in 2025, an increase of 699 people, or 1.24%, compared with the previous year.
Of those convicted, 11,313 were foreign nationals, accounting for almost 20% of the total, while 45,813 were Spanish citizens.
Andalucia is home to around 972,000 foreign nationals out of a total population of 8.76 million. That means foreign nationals make up approximately 11.1% of the region’s population.
The figures also reveal a stark gender divide. A total of 45,950 convicted offenders were men, compared with 11,176 women, meaning around 80% of all convicted criminals in Andalucia were male.
Most offenders were convicted of a single offence, with 41,921 people found guilty of one crime.
A further 9,669 were convicted of two offences, while 5,536 accumulated three or more crimes.
The highest number of convictions was recorded among people aged 41 to 50, with 12,937 offenders, followed by those aged 36 to 40 (7,868) and 31 to 35 (7,866).
Malaga recorded the highest number of convicted offenders of any province in Andalucia, with 13,382 convictions, ahead of Sevilla (11,006), Cadiz (9,649), Granada (7,249) and Almeria (5,165).
Huelva and Jaen recorded the fewest convictions, with 3,347 each.
The INE data also showed a slight fall in youth offending. A total of 2,421 minors were convicted during 2025, down 2.6% from the previous year.
More than eight in ten were boys, while 272 of those convicted were foreign nationals, representing just over 11% of the total.
However, convictions for sexual offences continued to climb.
The number of adults convicted of sexual crimes reached a record 701 in 2025, up 12.3% on the previous year and the highest figure since the INE began publishing the statistics in 2017.
Among minors, 114 were convicted of sexual offences, an increase of 15.2% compared with 2024. The offenders received a combined 3,240 sentences, also the highest total on record.
