The iconic Kempinski Hotel in Estepona has officially entered a new chapter after reopening as the Hotel Hacienda del Mar.
The sweeping resort has joined the Melia Collection as a five-star luxury property following a €12million refurbishment.
The revamped beachfront hotel was officially inaugurated during a ceremony attended by more than 300 guests from across the Costa del Sol.
Leading the ribbon-cutting were Gabriel Escarrer, chairman and CEO of Melia Hotels International, and Estepona mayor Jose Maria Garcia Urbano.
The renovated resort features more than 130 rooms and suites set among 45,000 square metres of landscaped gardens, with Melia describing the relaunch as ‘a new chapter centred on wellbeing, gastronomy and a connection with the surrounding environment.’
Escarrer praised what he described as the Costa del Sol’s ‘excellent public-private collaboration’, saying it has helped reposition the region as a more sustainable tourism destination that creates higher-quality jobs and greater value for the local community.
He also described the Costa del Sol as ‘a unique destination’ where he would happily choose to live thanks to its climate, natural surroundings and the warmth of its people.
Congratulating Estepona’s mayor on the town’s ‘beauty and cleanliness’, Escarrer reaffirmed Meliá’s commitment to continuing to invest in both Malaga province and Andalucia.
He described the newly renamed hotel as ‘a unique and privileged place’ and ‘an icon of the Costa del Sol’ that is now embarking on ‘a brilliant new future’.
Four new dining concepts
The hotel has also unveiled four new food and drink venues:
- Neguri Beach Club, located directly on the beachfront.
- El Hote, a seafood-inspired restaurant.
- El Burladero, serving Andalucian cuisine with a contemporary twist using local ingredients.
- Almenara y Umbral, combining a breakfast venue with a lobby bar.
Mayor Garcia Urbano said the reopening further strengthens Estepona’s growing reputation as a luxury tourism destination.
