This is the dramatic moment a paraglider had to rescued from a mountainside in Andalucia after crash landing during a competitive event.
The accident happened near Pegalajar, Jaen, in the Sierra Magina mountains, where competitors were taking part in the Andalucia Paragliding Champiosnhip.
According to the Guardia Civil, the man was forced to deploy his emergency parachute after his paraglider’s wing collapsed in mid-air.
He made an emergency landing on a mountainside in the Fuentemayor area of Sierra Magina but suffered a serious injury to his left leg, believed to be a possible fracture, leaving him unable to move.
Specialist officers from the Guardia Civil’s Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM), together with its Air Service helicopter based in Granada, located the injured paraglider and carried out a rescue from the remote hillside.
The injured man was then flown to Granada’s Traumatology Hospital for treatment.
The Guardia Civil has released footage showing the dramatic helicopter rescue from the mountainous terrain.
