An elderly man has died after being pulled from the water at a beach in Nerja.
The tragedy unfolded at around 5.30pm Wednesday on Playa de las Torrecillas, when beachgoers spotted a person floating in the sea.
Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, including the Guardia Civil, Nerja Local Police and paramedics.
Lifeguards quickly entered the water and brought the man, believed to be around 80 years old, back to shore.
Paramedics carried out CPR but were unable to revive him.
Authorities are now working to identify the victim, who was not carrying any form of identification.
The death is the latest in a series of tragedies along the Axarquia coastline this month.
Less than two weeks ago, an elderly man and woman died after getting into difficulty in the sea at a beach in Torrox, just a few kilometres away.
