A body in an advanced state of decomposition has been found on a Granada beach.
The grim discovery was made by a passerby on Cambriles beach in Lujar on Friday morning.
Authorities confirmed that, due to the condition of the body, it is not currently possible to establish the person’s identity.
A Guardia Civil patrol was dispatched to secure the scene and prepare for the removal of the corpse.
The body will be transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), where forensic tests will be carried out to determine both identity and cause of death.
The incident comes amid a series of recent events along this stretch of Granada’s coastline.
On Sunday, March 15, the bodies of three people were recovered nearby following the arrival of a small migrant boat carrying 17 people at Gualchos-Castell de Ferro beach.
Throughout that week, the Guardia Civil, supported by the Helimer rescue helicopter from Spain’s Maritime Rescue service, carried out intensive search operations along the coast to locate any additional bodies that may have been lost at sea or washed ashore.
Granada’s central government subdelegate, Jose Antonio Montilla, stated on Monday that these operations remain active.
According to his remarks, the Guardia Civil and Maritime Rescue teams continue to conduct patrols and coastal searches to locate any further bodies linked to recent migrant crossings.
