A 28-year-old man has died after attacking a moving bus with an axe and injuring the driver in the Granada town of Chauchina.
The dramatic incident unfolded late Saturday night at around 11.30pm on Calle Carmen de la Virgen, according to Spain’s 112 emergency service and the Guardia Civil.
Several emergency calls reported two related incidents – a man armed with an axe and a confrontation involving a bus driver.
Investigators say the man approached the bus while it was in service and began striking the vehicle with the axe, causing damage and injuring the driver.
During the incident the man was run over by the same bus and died at the scene.
Guardia Civil officers are now investigating whether the death was accidental or if the man may have deliberately put himself in front of the vehicle.
Paramedics from the 061 ambulance service could only confirm the man’s death.
The 55-year-old bus driver was taken to hospital with bruising and other minor injuries.
