Sevilla Airport is set for major improvements following the approval of a €235million investment package.
National airport operator Aena’s new strategy aims to push the travel hub to 10.9 million passengers by 2031 – one million more than the record figures reached in 2025.
The expansion, planned between 2027 and 2031, will be funded through a €0.35 increase per passenger, and the investment is five times higher than in the previous 2022–2026 period.
However, Sevilla still trails behind Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport, which is set to receive €363 million as part of a wider €1.5 billion programme.
Nationally, Aena plans to mobilise €12.88 billion across Spain’s airports.
Six key projects planned
Aena’s roadmap for Sevilla includes six major upgrades:
1. Parking expansion
A new three-storey modular building will be constructed at the long-stay P2 car park, adding around 600 new spaces.
2. Terminal improvements
Upgrades to air conditioning systems and arrival access areas are planned, along with general quality and process improvements.
3. New boarding bridge
A new jet bridge will serve gates 10 and 11 to improve passenger flow.
4. Security expansion
The airport’s security control area will be enlarged to cope with higher traffic.
5. Sustainability upgrades
A photovoltaic solar plan and new energy management platform will improve efficiency.
6. Additional facilities
Refurbished toilets, a new VIP lounge and a fire simulator are also included in the package.
Andalucia-wide investment
Sevilla will receive the second-largest airport investment in Andalucia after Malaga. Other allocations include:
- Jerez – €95.1m
- Almeria – €43.1m
- Cordoba – €17.9m
- Algeciras heliport – €3.4m
In total, Andalucia’s airports will see €757 million in improvements, aimed at modernising infrastructure and preparing for continued passenger growth.
