Bullfighter Jose Antonio ‘Morante de la Puebla’ will receive the Medal of Andalucia for Culture and Heritage on February 28, marking Andalucia Day.
Regional president Juanma Moreno announced the honour on social media, confirming that he will be recognised during the official ceremony at Sevilla’s Teatro de la Maestranza for his ‘contribution to the region.’
Moreno described Morante as a ‘living legend’ who has transcended the history of bullfighting and helped promote Andalucian traditions.
Born in La Puebla del Rio (Sevilla), Morante is widely regarded as one of the leading figures of modern bullfighting, praised for his distinctive style and artistry in the ring.
Singer and actress Ana Mena, from Estepona, is also being honoured for her talent and international projection.
The Junta said she has built a successful career as a singer and actress, working in television and film – including projects linked to acclaimed director Pedro Almodovar – and achieving major chart success in Spain and Latin America.
She has earned multiple Platinum and Gold records in countries such as Mexico and Argentina and toured more than 50 cities with her ‘Bellodrama Tour’.
They join a list of other high-profile Andalucians set to be recognised this year. Earlier, Moreno announced that singer Manuel Carrasco and actress Paz Vega will be named ‘Hijos Predilectos de Andalucía’ (Favourite Children of Andalucia) in 2026.
Carrasco holds the record for the largest concert attendance by a Spanish artist, drawing more than 74,000 fans to Sevilla’s La Cartuja Stadium in 2022.
Paz Vega has enjoyed an international film career, winning a Goya Award for Best New Actress and earning recognition at festivals including Cannes and San Sebastian.
The town of Adamuz in Cordoba province will also receive the Medal of Andalusia for Human Values, Solidarity and Coexistence in recognition of residents’ response to the railway accident on January 18.
All the distinctions will be formally approved by the regional government at its meeting this week ahead of the official ceremony.
