Leading Spanish cardiologist Aurelio Rojas has issued four top tips for avoiding fainting.

In a video shared online, the doctor said there are a few tricks anyone can do with their own bodies once they start feeling dizzy.

Widely- used epilepsy medication reduces risk from Alzheimer’s, new study suggests

The first, he explains, is to interlock your fingers and pull your arms apart while keeping your muscles tense.

‘Pull as hard as you can like you’re trying to separate them for 10 seconds,’ Rojas says.

‘If you don’t like that one, you can do it with your legs by standing up, put one on top of the other and pressure one knee against the other, during 10 seconds.’

If these do not work, Rojas advises anyone feeling faint to do a squat and stay close to the floor until the fainting sensation stops.

And finally, if that does not work, then lay yourself down on your back and if possible, raise your legs.

This, Rojas says, will help your blood flow up to your head and hopefully stop you from fainting.

‘I know you’ve fainted at some point, or you know someone who has,’ he said.

‘Luckily, in most cases, these fainting spells can be prevented with simple manoeuvres that we can perform as soon as we start to feel the preceding symptoms (dizziness, sweating, paleness, blurred vision, etc.).’
