The reopening of the high-speed rail line between Madrid and Sevilla is once again in doubt.
It comes after passengers were notified of fresh cancellations linked to ongoing repair works following the Adamuz rail disaster.
Travellers booked on AVE services for Friday, February 13 received messages on Monday night to say that their trains would not run.
However, Renfe is still selling tickets for Saturday February, 14 and has yet to confirm whether services will operate on Sunday (February 15).
In a message sent to affected passengers, Renfe cited adverse weather conditions slowing repair work on the line.
The message read: ‘Due to the adverse weather situation, recovery works on the infrastructure between Villanueva de Cordoba and Cordoba are progressing more slowly than expected.
‘As a result, your train will not operate. You may cancel your ticket or change it free of charge via our usual channels. We apologise for the inconvenience.’
Sources at Renfe told El Correo that the company cannot provide a reopening date, as decisions on cancellations depend entirely on information supplied by Adif.
For this reason, journeys for Saturday and Sunday remain provisionally on sale, despite uncertainty over whether the line will be operational.
Renfe’s most recent estimate had pointed to February 12 as the likely reopening date.
According to Adif, teams are continuing work in the Adamuz area, focusing on restoring rail traffic ‘as soon as possible and under full safety conditions’.
