This is the moment an elderly man was dramatically rescued from the banks of the Guadalquivir River in Sevilla on Saturday.
Tragedy was narrowly avoided when a group of Policia Nacional officers saved the local resident from being dragged downstream.
The man was reportedly too disoriented to lead himself away from the fast-flowing water.
The incident occurred amid the arrival of Storm Marta, which was the eighth Atlantic storm to hit the region in 2026 alone.
Following reports of a person in the water, police officers immediately searched along the riverbank and found the man kneeling, with his legs in the stream and clearly disorientated.
They were assisted at the scene by paramedics and later taken to Hospital Virgen del Rocio.
Meanwhile, the Guadalquivir continues to occupy its designated flood zones as it passes through Sevilla, although it has not yet reached streets or car parks, according to Emergencias 112 Andalucia.
Water did reach low-lying areas near Isla de la Cartuja and Triana, but the Ayuntamiento de Sevilla says there is currently no evidence of the river overflowing or causing flooding in residential parts of the city.
