This is the moment a driver was caught carrying a knife during a traffic stop in Marbella.
The tense moment was captured on Canal Sur’s hot new TV series En Guardia 24/7, which sees a camera crew follow police units around Andalucia.
An episode this week featured a traffic stop on a roundabout in Puerto Banus, which had been set up following the theft of a €200,000 watch.
In the footage, officers from the Policia Nacional ask a black Audi to pull over after they deemed its occupants to be ‘suspicious.’
While quizzing the driver and occupant, an officer is seen pulling a kitchen knife from the side of the passenger seat.
‘And what do you need this for?’ he asks the driver, who replies: ‘I have many enemies’.
Carrying a bladed weapon can result in fines ranging from €601 to €30,000.
‘I don’t usually carry a knife but today I am,’ he added. When the police officer says ‘are they looking for you?’, he replied: ‘No, but just in case…’
He continues: ‘I’m carrying it because before they hurt me, I’d rather pay 20 years more… I already have to do 10, I have 24, I add them up… I’m not going to let anyone hurt me.’
According to Canal Sur, the driver did not have a valid licence and had recently been released from prison.
At the time he was pulled over, he was awaiting re-incarceration for an attempted homicide.
